Announces Cover Photo Contest
On January 15, 2013, West Virginia Family Magazine announces Cover Photo Contest and would like to invite parents, family members, caregivers, and photographers to submit photos.
“We are looking for great cover shots of children for the cover of West Virginia Family Magazine,” says Publisher, Carla Cosner. “We are seeking photos that are clear and crisp, with good lighting and great color. Photos should be vertical, like a magazine cover, and have plenty of room on the top and sides for editorial content. Photos should be of children who are between the ages of 0 and 17 years, and are WV residents. The photo can include siblings, family, or pets.” Cosner also noted, “We want natural photos, please no glamour shots and no school photos.”
The entry should be high quality and high resolution of at least 300 dpi to make it press quality. Semi-finalist will be announced in the May/June 2013 issue of WV Family Magazine. Six winners will be chosen to appear on covers throughout the next year.
To submit your entry, email your photo to Carla@WVFamilyMagazine.com. Be sure to put “Cover Photo Contest” in the subject box. Include as text in your email: Name of the child(ren), age, name of parent/guardian, your name, your relationship to the child, your address, phone number, and email address. The deadline for entries is March 30, 2013.

Celebrates 7th Year by Announcing Changes to the Area’s Only Magazine Devoted to Families
On January 12, 2013, West Virginia Family Magazine announces changes coming up in the new year. This award-winning magazine has received recognition in recent years for editorial excellence and for its service to WV families and communities. Each issue of this excellent family resource provides articles and news on health, safety, and education, as well as special directories and guides such as the Annual Summer Camp Guide, Back–to-School Guide, and the Family Health Directory.
Publisher Carla Cosner commented, “We are proud to be in our seventh year of serving WV families and very excited about changes that 2013 will bring for WV Family Magazine. Starting with the March/April issue, we will be publishing bi-monthly (every other month), getting information out more frequently to our readers. We are also upgrading to an 8” x 10” format and now printing on sixty pound premium glossy paper with #3 brightness all the way through. ” Cosner went on to explain what this means to readers, “We will offer the same great news and articles by experts and award-winning authors, now in a more practical size and more appealing to the eyes and to the touch. Our readers hold onto copies for future reference, now it is even more durable to last longer.”
In addition to over 375 locations across Central and North Central WV, WV Family Magazine can also be found in its entirety online. The digital flip-page version is an interactive 3D version which allows the reader to turn pages, increase page size, print pages, and includes a click-through link directing viewers to your website. Also provided is a PDF version – for those smart device users who like technology at their fingertips through their smart phones, tablets, and other smart devices. WV Family Magazine Recognized As a Leading Parenting Publication - March 2011
On March 5, 2011, WV Family Magazine received the Silver Award for General Excellence during the Parenting Publications of America Editorial and Design Award Competition banquet in Arlington, VA . This is a top award, which is competitive and features many excellent entries from around the country. The General Excellence Award reflects both editorial and design, including: reporting and writing standards, as well as visual presentation. West Virginia Family Magazine has won previous multiple awards for editorial excellence and for its service to WV families and communities.

WVFM Publisher Honored with the Community Service Award by Glenville State College -
Publisher of West Virginia Family Magazine, Carla Cosner was recognized by Glenville State College at the 2011 Annual Alumni Banquet for her devoted service to Central (and North Central) West Virginia through the writing, publication, and distribution of West Virginia Family Magazine. The annual banquet took place on April 16, 2011. Mrs. Cosner was introduced by Alumni Julie Yearego and presented the award by President of GSC Alumni Association, William S. Deel. Other awards were presented that evening as well. The presentation of the Alumni Awards was preceeded by a buffet dinner and other Alumni Day events which took place on the GSC campus.
